Larry Muri is a graduate of Holy Cross College with a degree in Political Science and graduate of DePaul Law School.
He began to row while at Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts and continued to compete after graduation with several clubs in Chicago and Connecticut.
After helping coach both high school and college crews at several clubs while still competing, he began coaching career in the early 90’s at the college level for over a dozen years as a Men’s Coach at Iona College and the Head Coach of both the Men’s and Women’s Teams at the US Merchant Marine Academy, Manhattan College and Sarah Lawrence College.
Began coaching at the junior level as the Varsity Coach at Chaminade High School, in Mineola, New York in 2004 for eight years. While at Chaminade coached crews to over 15 New York State Championships and multiple silver and bronze medals in the Varsity, Junior, Lightweight and Second Eights, several SRAA National Championships along with multiple silver and bronze medal wins. During those years the Varsity Eight also won the Head of the Charles Youth Eight twice and finished in the top 5 on 3 other occasions.
Was the Head Coach of the Fordham Preparatory School for 6 years after leaving Chaminade with the team going on to win the Varsity Eight at the New York State Championships three years in a row from 2015-2017 representing the first time the program’s Varsity Eight had ever done so.
During those years also ran summer training and racing programs on both Long Island and in Westchester County, New York with crews competing at the Independence Day Regatta, the US Club Nationals and the Canadian Henley. Has also coached several individuals who have gone on to represent the United States at the Junior, U23 and Senior National Team World Championships and dozens of athletes who have gone on to compete at the highest collegiate level including numerous student-athletes who went on to win EARC and IRA championships.
